China's Women's Volleyball Team Faces Challenges as 70-Year-Old Coach Announces Launch of New Talent National Team Plan; Brazil Welcomes a New Era
Recently, Brazilian women's volleyball head coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes announced in an interview that the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation will launch a women's rookie national team plan in 2025. This project aims to cultivate more young talents for the 2028 Los Angeles and 2032 Brisbane Olympics through professional training, friendly matches, and domestic and international competitions, providing a platform for the growth of the next generation of Brazilian volleyball stars.
Jose Roberto mentioned in the program: "We will launch a women's rookie national team this year, with the aim of quickly cultivating players who can take over from the current adult team. Through this plan, young players will have the opportunity to participate in high-level training and competitions, laying a solid foundation for their future performance in the national adult team."
This rookie national team plan is not the first time it has been introduced. In 2024, the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation has already resumed the men's rookie national team project, and the launch of the women's rookie team is a continuation and expansion of this successful model. Through the training and competition of the rookie team, young players will accumulate rich practical experience at an early stage of their careers, while the coaching team can also discover potential players through these competitions, providing a guarantee for the long-term competitiveness of the national team.
According to the implementation of the rookie draft, the members of the Brazilian women's rookie national team are mainly selected from the U19 and U21 national teams that have performed well in recent years. The current selection list includes Aline Segatto, Helena Wink, Juliana Gandra, Lucía Nezzi, Jak Schmitz, Jehovana Emanuel, Marina Ciotti, Vivian Lima, Marcella Aruda, Laila Hollanda, and Paulina Souza, among others.
The technical director of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation said about this project: "The renewal of the Brazilian national team is a continuous process. The rookie national team season is crucial for cultivating young players and planning for future Olympic cycles. It not only provides valuable international competition experience for the players but also provides an important opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate rookies."
Brazilian volleyball is known for its glorious history and strong strength, but to maintain its lead in fierce international competition, continuous talent cultivation is essential. The re-launch of the rookie national team plan also reflects the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation's long-term planning for the future.
As one of the main competitors of the Chinese women's volleyball team (ranked fifth in the world with 350.3 points), especially in international competitions, both sides have staged classic confrontations many times. The establishment of the rookie national team aims to quickly cultivate young players and reserve talents, laying the foundation for future Olympic cycles. This means that in the coming years, more excellent young players will emerge, which will directly enhance their overall strength and increase the competitive pressure on the Chinese women's volleyball team in international competitions.
Chinese volleyball needs to accelerate the reform of youth training, attach importance to the cultivation and international experience of young players, and make full use of domestic leagues and international competition opportunities to prepare more high-level reserve forces for the future. By enhancing its own strength, it can maintain a competitive advantage in future competitions with strong teams like Brazil and continue the glory of the team.
