Manchester City Signs Kusano with a Transfer Fee of 40 Million Euros Plus Bonuses
On January 11th, according to reports from Fabrizio Romano, The Athletic (TA), and German Sky Sports, Manchester City has reached an agreement to sign Kusano, with a transfer fee of 40 million euros plus bonuses. Including the floating bonuses of 10 million euros, Manchester City will spend a total of 50 million euros to complete this transfer.
Romano stated: "Kusano is joining Manchester City, here we go! The deal is done, with a transfer fee of 40 million euros plus bonuses. Lens has accepted the offer and approved the player's medical examination in the coming days. Kusano's contract with Manchester City runs until June 2029, with an option to extend for an additional year."
According to L'Équipe, Kusano will set a new record for the highest transfer fee received by Lens for a player. Lens only spent 100,000 euros to acquire the Uzbekistan defender in the summer window of 2023, and now they are selling him for 50 million euros, making a massive profit of 49 million euros. Kusano becomes the most expensive player sold in Lens' history.
Kusano is an international player from Uzbekistan, playing as a central defender and can also play as a defensive midfielder. He is currently 20 years old, standing at 1.86 meters tall. His existing contract with Lens expires in 2027. This season, he has played in 16 games, providing one assist, with a total playing time of 1,219 minutes. Currently, his market value on Transfermarkt is 12 million euros. Kusano will be the first Uzbekistan player to join the Premier League and the 119th player from different countries/regions in the league.
Manchester City's Big Spending in the Winter Window Could Reach 160 Million Euros
Before the start of this season during the summer transfer window, Manchester City let go of players like Alvarez, only bringing in Savigny and signing Gundogan on a free transfer, netting a profit of 140 million euros. Currently, Manchester City's performance is not good, with 34 points after 20 rounds in the Premier League, ranking 6th, 12 points behind the top of the table Liverpool; in the Champions League, after six rounds of the group stage, they are temporarily ranked 22nd, facing the risk of not qualifying for the knockout stages, with their last two matches against Paris and Brugge.
However, since the start of the new season, midfield anchor Rodri has been almost out for the entire season due to injury, and other positions have also suffered consecutive injuries, leaving the bench short-handed. This is also one of the reasons for Manchester City's poor current performance. To maintain their chances of finishing in the top four and advancing to the knockout stages of the Champions League, Manchester City has been active in the transfer market this winter.
In addition to Kusano, Manchester City is also working on bringing in Malmoosh and the 18-year-old Brazilian defender Reis, who are priced at 80 million euros and 40 million euros respectively.
Romano reported the latest progress of Manchester City's three transfer targets:
- New signing central defender Kusano's medical examination has been scheduled, and the deal is completed.
- Forward Malmoosh's negotiations are progressing smoothly, with more news expected in the next few hours.
- Negotiations for central defender Vitor Reis are ongoing, with a potential July joining.
According to reports from Sky Sports, Manchester City does not rule out signing another defensive midfielder.
