Manchester United is set to announce the signing of a new contract with winger Amad Diallo this week, following his crucial equalizing goal in the away match against Liverpool last weekend. The details of his new contract have been finalized and are expected to be officially announced within the next 24 hours.
The 22-year-old Diallo joined Manchester United with a contract that was due to expire in June 2025, with an option for a 12-month extension that the club did not exercise. Instead, they have opted to sign him to a long-term contract. Diallo will receive a significant pay raise, reflecting his importance to the first team.
Premier League transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed that Diallo's weekly wage is higher than the anticipated £90,000, as his recent impressive performances have led to an increase in his salary to around £120,000, which is four times his current weekly wage of £30,000. The contract will run until June 2030.
In recent months, Diallo has become a regular starter for Manchester United and is seen as a key player in new manager Ruben Amorim's plans for the future. Bailey added that several interested clubs have approached Diallo, which has enhanced his negotiating position, but his sole interest lies in renewing his contract.
After scoring against Liverpool again, he kissed the club crest, endearing himself even more to the Manchester United fans. This gesture even won over racists, with one online comment stating: "Diallo's performance in this game was incredible; even as a racist, I yearn to see more from him."
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano introduced: "Diallo's new contract with Manchester United runs until 2030, without a one-year extension option. He will sign on Thursday. Despite contact from two top clubs this month, the player only wishes to stay and renew with Manchester United."
If Diallo remains at Manchester United throughout the new five-and-a-half-year contract period, his prime years will be spent entirely at Old Trafford. By the time his contract expires, he will be just 11 days shy of his 28th birthday, and his tenure at Manchester United will be close to a decade. Diallo confirmed his move from Serie A's Atalanta to Manchester United on October 5, 2020, for a total transfer fee of €40 million, and he officially signed a 5+1 contract on January 7, 2021.
So far this season, Amad has contributed to 13 goals, most of which were achieved from November onwards. In Manchester United's last 10 Premier League matches, he has only missed one start and scored decisive or equalizing goals in the away games against Manchester City and Liverpool, setting a club record.
Following the completion of Diallo's contract renewal, Manchester United's next task is to extend the contract of Koby Mainoo, the 19-year-old academy midfielder who is also expected to receive a pay raise. This week, rumors circulated that Mainoo was demanding a weekly wage of £200,000 and might transfer to Chelsea, which is likely a negotiation tactic. However, there is no reason to believe that Manchester United cannot foreseeably reach a renewal agreement. After witnessing Bruno Fernandes' contract renewal for a weekly wage of £300,000 and Diallo's increase to £120,000, it is normal for Mainoo, as a "local player," to seek higher income.
Bailey predicts that Manchester United will offer Mainoo a weekly wage of £150,000. The negotiations for his new contract have taken longer than Manchester United would have liked, with the first discussions taking place before the end of last season. The negotiations are not expected to conclude immediately, but once Diallo's contract renewal is announced, Mainoo's contract situation will become Manchester United's top priority.
