Former World No. 1 Doubles Player, Australian tennis athlete Woodford recently discussed Sinner's doping incident. In an interview, Woodford believes that the world No. 1 player should be banned.
Sinner tested positive twice for doping during last year's Indian Wells Masters, but he was exempted from punishment. However, the International Anti-Doping Center has filed an appeal, requesting a ban on Sinner. The appeal result will be announced between February and March this year.
Woodford explained his point of view: "Sinner performed outstandingly last season, but things are definitely not going to be easier for him now because the trial at the Court of Arbitration for Sport is approaching. There has been a lot of discussion about what will happen next in this story, but I think he is also likely to face some form of suspension. He has gone through several stages of testing, and he has always been good at keeping this matter off the court, continuing to work hard in matches and achieve good results. He still needs to be good at not letting off-court events affect his performance on the court, which I think will not be easy for him. At the US Open, he performed poorly in the early rounds but eventually made it through and then performed strongly in the decisive stages. Now in Australia, as the defending champion, he faces even greater pressure, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this situation."
The World Anti-Doping Agency is calling for a 1-2 year ban for Sinner, but it is widely predicted that Sinner will be banned for 1-3 months.
